Emergency Room stats

I have mentioned before in this blog that trampoline safety is of increasing concern in the UK as well as other countries around the world but I have just read a stat that is really quite scary. Over 100,000 people each year end up in the emergency room in the USA!

The problem on the other side of the Atlantic is so acute that the majority of home owner policies do not cover you in the case of trampoline injuries. That means you are personally liable should someone have an accident on your trampoline and when you buy a trampoline you MUST take out additional cover to protect you.

Springfree Trampolines are relatively new to the USA and becoming increasingly more popular. It will be really interesting to see how the safest trampoline in the world will change the attitudes of interested parties. It is already happening over here and is well established Down Under.

Parents Ignore Trampoline Safety

It is a common problem I read about time after time but the BBC reported today that Doctors at Kingston Hospital in Surrey have seen a surge in the number of children they treat for accidents on trampolines. Operations were carried out on 18 children and 28 were referred to the hospital's ear, nose and throat clinic.

How many kids kids ended up in hospital?

According to a Local Government Press Release on the 14th August 2008 as many as 18,000 children could be injured over the summer alone whilst playing on trampolines. Even worse 40% of those children will require an operation. Just think how that number could have been reduced if all trampolines were Springfree. I have never really thought about what we are doing as saving the tax payer money.
